Psalm 1:1-3 (AMP)

Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked [following their advice and example], nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit [down to rest] in the seat of scoffers (ridiculers).  But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].

Whatever you habitually think about is what you become. So Blessed is the one who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or spend the day doing the things that sinners do. Or sit down to rest with scoffers who ridicule. You put these three things together and you have an environment. You feed off of your environment. And you become like your environment.

Blessed (fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God) is the one who meditates (thinks about, imagines, cultivates, marinates) in the precepts (a general rule intended to regulate behavior or thought) and teachings of God. What you continue to behold in your mind is what you become.  It’s through the repetition of thought that you create belief.  By thinking the thoughts of God you become like a tree FIRMLY planted by streams of water that constantly feed you. And because of that you produce fruit in season, your leaf doesn’t wither and everything you do prospers. That sounds a lot like function to me!

Function comes from living in the correct environment.  When your inner environment is the kingdom of heaven, then your outer environment will begin to be transformed. Because what you continually think about on the inside, is what you become on the outside. How do you create an inner environment of the kingdom of heaven? You think about the thoughts of the king with such repetition, that you actually believe them (belief is proved through your actions). Where do you find those thoughts? The Bible. The Bible is unto something. It’s not just “the right thing to do”, it leads to life (function). It’s the word that become alive and speaks to you. It’s the knowledge of the truth that creates faith. Faith is belief in the truth. You start to think the thoughts of God and therefore take action based upon those thoughts. You can not live a life based on the truth of God, if you do not know the truth.

Let’s look at it like this, God created all things. In God is the knowledge of everything. When you tap into the thoughts of God you tap into UNLIMITED potential and possibilities. There is not a problem on this earth that God does not have a solution for. Your life is meant to prove to this world that God is good.  A life that is connected and nourished by the truth produces fruit in keeping with it (function).

What do you think would happen to your life or what would your life look like, if you created the habit of meditating (thinking about, imagining, cultivating, marinating) on the thoughts of God day and night? All you need is a good enough reason to take action. So what is your reason?
