Being sold on who you are, why you are, and what you are capable of in God is absolutely vital. It’s the only way that you will step up to take massive amounts of action to achieve the dreams you dream in God.
In the story of David and Goliath, David has a conversation with king Saul, where he has to convince the king that he can kill Goliath. You have to believe in what you can do if you are going to convince someone who already said no, to change there mind and say yes.
“David said to Saul, ‘Let no one lose heart on account of this philistine; your servant will go and fight him.’
Saul replied, ‘You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.’
But David said to Saul, ‘Your servant has been keeping his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.’
Saul said to David, ‘Go, and the lord be with you.’” 1 Samuel 17:32-37
David said, “don’t let anyone lose heart on account of this Philistine,” because for forty days Goliath had been coming out demanding one soldier to come and fight him. And for forty days no one was brave enough. Never let the enemy dictate the terms. David shows up to bring provisions for his brothers, and that same day Goliath comes out and makes his pitch, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” Whenever the Israelites saw Goliath, they all fled from him in great fear. David, not numb from fear, hears that great wealth, tax exemption, and the daughter of the king will be given to the man who kills Goliath. David says to these men, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
David’s attitude of courage and righteousness must have been unique because what he said was reported to the king and the king sent for David. David proceeds to tell Saul that he will kill the Philistine. Saul in disbelief said, “You are still a child, and this man has been a warrior since he was a child.”
You don’t let go of your confidence because of someone else’s disbelief in you. David had experiences in and with God that were bigger than this opposition. David shares his experiences of killing the bear and the lion and this Philistine beast was no different. David not only sold Saul on his ability in God, but then delivered on what he said he would do (literally, after he killed Goliath he cut off his head picked it up by the hair and delivered it to Jerusalem.).
To take a stand and fight when everyone else cowers in fear, comes from a belief in God that is bigger than the situation and opposition. The process of growing in the maturity of the knowledge of God, is one that produces strength, courage and action. Colossians 1:11 says, “being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.” If you have access to be strengthened with all power, to great endurance and patience, it’s because your call in God necessitates, and requires it.
My good peoples, we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved. Hebrews 10:39. Get sold on who you are, why you are, and what you are capable of in God, and go kill some giants.
