Do it!  In Hosea 4:6 it says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.  Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

On the flip side God says in Joshua 1:7, “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.”

And in Daniel 11:32, “Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”

God says in Hosea 6:6, “For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.”

In Hebrews 2:1 it says, “We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”

In 1 Timothy 4:8 Paul says,  For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

I could go on and on but the point is this, we need an intimate relationship with the Bible.  If you don’t know what it says then you don’t know what you have access to, and it is very easy to be led astray through incorrect instruction and interpretation.

Reading the Bible is a necessity that creates intimacy.  Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”  But seriously. Sometimes you can hear a verse over and over and it can seem to be empty with no power or value.  But Jesus was serious. Jesus meant it when he said, “My food and drink are to do the will of the one who sent me.”  The word of God is alive and active, sharper than a double edge sword.

Creating a daily-ish reading habit of 3 or more chapters will cycle you through the bible in a year.  It’s this habit that will cause encounters with God, stimulate wholesome thinking; cause you to grow and become mature and complete.  The bible is literally the word of God. Get into it!
