We are on a journey. We have some promises, some vision and purpose and we are off getting into it. The journey is fully equipped with some distance. It requires process and time. There are moments where things don’t always look like what we thought they should look. We are not as far as we thought we were going to be. It’s a little harder than we anticipated. And in times like these our focus can tend to zero in on what we don’t see. We start to pull from past failures and the emotions of discouragement begin to rise up. We get so focused on lack that we forget “Why” we are on the journey. We forget “Where” we are going. It’s times like these where we must remember.
Moses in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 said,
“Listen, Israel: The Lord is our God. The Lord is the only God. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I give you today. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you’re at home or away, when you lie down or get up. Write them down, and tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands as a reminder. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.”
Moses with every fiber of his being is trying to help Israel set their focus on God. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul and strength. With everything you do, in thought, emotion, word and deed do it unto the Lord. From this perspective you create an environment that says, “All Day I Keep It Cultivated”.
Talk about the Lord who is God to your kids. Talk about this life when you are out and about and at home. Meditate and communicate it when you lie down and wake up. Make a sweet bracelet that will remind you of God. Made a headband and wear it so that people who talk to you see it and are reminded of identity, purpose and vision. Write these things on your door frames and the gates of your fences. So that every time you walk through them you are reminded.
It is important to take these promises, these words of identity, purpose and vision that you have received and put them on your walls, computer, phone, mirror and where ever you habitually go and spend time. This is important for two reasons.
1: When you get into the tunnel vision of discouragement it becomes really hard to remember why you are doing what you are doing. But when your promises, your purpose and your vision are plastered all around your environment they are safeguards that remind you to check your focus.
2: Whenever you execute a pattern with repetition you create a habit. If you persistently and consistently review and remind yourself of your promises, your purpose and your vision, you are creating a way of thinking that is indestructible. This way of thinking keeps our focus on hope instead of disappointment. People who hope, keep moving forward. People who are discouraged, walk in circles.
