“How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.” Proverbs 6:9-11
Laziness is to poverty like diligence is to life.
Proverbs 4:25-27 says,
“Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.”
If you allow it the world will give you all kinds of ways to spend your time and live your life. There are plenty of ways to occupy your focus, desire and affection. Distraction loves company. This is why Solomon says, “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.” What is ahead is your vision, don’t lose sight of it. “Mark out a straight path for your feet,” is your plan to accomplish your vision, it’s the road map to your destination. “Don’t get sidetracked,” speaks of purpose and priority. Purpose is the reason why you would work diligently to accomplish your vision. Priority speaks of higher value.
Laziness comes when we spend to much time looking to the left and to the right. When our affections become tethered to things of lesser value then our vision and call in life, we create an environment of distraction. Distractions are like a mini fridge in a hotel room, you can have all you want but in the end you will have to pay the price.
Proverbs 4:23 says it like this,
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
If you don’t consciously determine what your life is rooted in and where you are going, the current of your environment will sweep you away. If you let your environment sweep you away, you are letting someone else determine where you end up.
Be vigilant and diligent with your life.
