Proverbs 20:5 says, “A plan (motive, wise counsel) in the heart of a man is like water in a deep well, But a man of understanding draws it out.”  An idea, a divine inspiration in the heart of a man is like water in a deep well. If you want to make use of it, it will require some work. Ideas solve problems, create innovation, fulfill needs, make things better, create demand and wealth.  The real power of the idea is in the application of it, not just the imagining. Therefore a man of understanding sees the potential, draws it out and uses it.

No doubt we have all had times where we had an idea that created the “Aha!” moment.  Maybe you were problem solving a situation and all of the sudden, “Ah!” you understood the problem and knew what course of action to take.  This is called inspiration. Inspiration is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative; a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea.

In Genesis 2:7 we see inspiration at work:

“Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

The Hebrew word used here for “breath” means divine inspiration.  Through divine inspiration comes life! The ideas, the wise counsel, plans, motives from God are released inside of us so we can use them.  Listen to what was said before God divinely inspired man,

“Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground,”

No shrub or plant had sprung up because there was no one to work the ground.  God planted the seeds but didn’t send water. Why? Because someone needed to tend what would spring up.

These ideas we discover and find within us are seeds, but we are the ones who must cultivate them into existence.  God gave mankind the authority, responsibility and duty to tend, cultivate and create things of value on earth. A man and woman of understanding take these seeds and cultivate them into being, knowing that what we cultivate with deliberate and intentional care for will produce beneficial fruit and yield a harvest of value.

God has placed his dreams in our hearts and minds through a process called divine inspiration.  What ideas have you been cultivating lately? It could be time to work them into existence.
