RISK IS A NECESSARY FACTOR FOR GROWTH

It’s been said, “There is no comfort in growth and there is no growth in comfort”.  Comfort comes from doing the things you always do, the same way you always do them.  This keeps things predictable.

But when you decide you want a new outcome in life, you must step out into the unknown, the unfamiliar and unpredictable.  In the Jumpstart Your Life of Purpose program I said, “If you want to go somewhere you have never been before.  You are going to have to do some things you have never done before.”  Enter in Bold Risk.

WHENEVER YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE SOMETHING NEW, IT REQUIRES NEW KINDS OF ACTIONS

It requires that you use some of your time differently. That you focus some of your attention in different ways.  That you think different kinds of thoughts.

In the beginning these factors are exhilarating and exciting.  The possibilities of these fresh ideas creating new results charges you up and you view these things as fully attainable.  Then you go to sleep and wake up the next day and are hit with the other side of the coin, “I have never done this before”, “What if this doesn’t work?”, “Who am I?”.  The excitement fades away and discomfort and uncertainty begins to set in.

The positive “What if….” questions of yesterday that stimulated possibilities and potentials turned into negative “What if….” questions, thinking of all the things that could go wrong and how these ideas probably won’t work, and it’s probably better not to try.

Yesterday’s thoughts were full of potential and faith.  Today’s thoughts are full of fear and doubt.  What’s going on here?

Interestingly enough, the thoughts of fear and doubt are actually coming from your old comfort zone conditioning, also known as your paradigm. This old mind set is trying to protect you from the unknown, by convincing you that change is bad and risky.

WHEN YOU FIND YOUR COMFORT ZONE PUSHING YOU AROUND TRYING TO PREVENT YOU FROM GROWTH, IT’S TIME TO PUSH BACK.

Abraham Mazlo said, “You are either going to step out into growth or step back into safety.  There is no compensation for playing it safe.”  Stepping out into growth is stepping into the uncomfortable and unfamiliar.  This can be quite scary, but the fact is, that this is where our dreams are.  This is where our purpose and vision will be realized. This is the path for us.

Taking bold risk is deliberately charging into the unknown and unfamiliar in order to advance into new territory or achieve a goal.  Bold risk is about accomplishing an objective.  It’s about creating what you see.  Bold risk holds the mission first and comfort last.

Grant Cardone says he uses fear as an indicator for action.  “If I don’t want to make a particular sales call, that’s an indicator that I should make that particular sales call.”  Sometimes the things we want to push off the most are the things that will actually propel us the furthest.  Take the path of bold risk.  If the thing you are thinking about doing scares you, there’s a pretty good chance you should do it.  Put that in your morning coffee.  Remember there is no compensation for playing it safe.

2021 is a year full of potential.  It’s like a lump of clay just waiting to be picked up and shaped into something of value and purpose.  Be bold, assert your will and decide what this year will be and then commit to shaping it into form.  And when the going gets tough don’t be pushed back into safety.  Instead add power to your step.  Sprinkle on some aggressive, proactive action, and grab the bull by the horns.  And this year will be one of the most productive and beneficial years you have ever had.

2021 The Year of The WILL.  Go Make Things Happen.
