I was thinking about the concept of, “waiting on the Lord,” as it relates to purpose and vision. Waiting on the Lord and being patient, can sometimes give the impression that if we sit around and do nothing, God will take care of everything. I’ve heard it said, “God didn’t do everything so we could do nothing.”
Realizing purpose and taking action to create vision is a process that takes patience. It also demands, faith and belief. It requires seeking which means to learn, study, explore and understand. The reason why we seek is to take action based on what we find.
I definitely have ideas and thoughts about the future that aren’t clear. It can be easy to focus too much time on the distant future and overlook the ideas I know to put into action now. It’s by doing what I know to do now that will create more clarity for the future.
Psalms 37:3-7
“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.
Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.”
David on a whole is talking about something specific in this Psalm. But reading it made me think of the concept of being still and waiting patiently. The sum up of the idea is wait patiently for the things you don’t know, and take action on the things you do.
