In Luke 17 someone asked Jesus when the kingdom of God would come. Jesus replied,
“The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.”
The kingdom of God was in Jesus. This kingdom is what Jesus ushered in and re-established on earth. In Isaiah 9:6-7 it says,
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Likewise, when we become born again the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of us. He reconnects us to the kingdom of heaven. Therefore everywhere we go we bring the kingdom of Heaven with us, just like Jesus did.
This concept makes me think of an embassy. An embassy is the official residence or offices of an ambassador. And an ambassador is an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country. So an ambassador is sent from their home country to a foreign country to represent the country they were sent from. The embassy that the ambassador works out of is owned by the country they came from. Meaning when you are on the property of the embassy you are in the country it represents.
We are ambassadors of the kingdom of heaven. We are citizens of heaven called to represent God on earth. With the Spirit of God living in us we become walking embassies. When people come in contact with us they step into the embassy of the kingdom of God. It’s here that they can taste the benefits of the government of God. Everywhere Jesus went he healed those who were sick, lame and blind, he raised the dead and cast out demons. Why? Because when people came in contact with Jesus they stepped into the embassy of heaven and experienced the benefits.
We are representatives of the kingdom of heaven. When people come into contact with us, they come into contact with the God who lives in us. Everywhere we go, so goes the kingdom of God.
