Psalm 119:9-16 says,
“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, Lord; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.”
What does it take to create this perspective, “I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches”? We have to understand that the word of God is life, it’s wholeness it’s restoration, it’s completeness, it’s the blueprint for life. The treasure of life is in the words of God. Jesus said in Matthew 4:4,
“It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus also said in John 4:34
“My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. “
The source of life is found in God and his words and his will. It’s not enough to occasionally read, pray, meditate and marinate in God and his words. Not if you truly want to live. God’s words and his voice are as necessary as air. The writer of Psalm 119 said, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Getting the words of life into your heart takes discipline, persistence, and repetition.
I don’t want to think, act or feel anything that God doesn’t. I don’t want to look at a situation differently than God does. There is no value in it. So how do we change the way we think? We need to flood our mind with the truth. There are a few audio books that I keep listening to over and over because I want my beliefs to change. I want my perspective to flow from a better understanding. Everything in these books is about taking action, realizing your potential, constantly growing in knowledge and ability, never resting on your laurels. There’s no limit to creativity, always embrace the uncomfortable, fear is an indicator that you should take action.
If you want to think like God thinks then flood your mind with his thoughts. And don’t just do it once. You must do it over and over and over and over and over until it becomes a part of who you are. The more the word of God becomes a part of you, the more you become like him. His words become your beliefs and your beliefs are expressed through your actions.
“How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.”
